7shifts Alternatives for Cafés, Retail and Multi-Site Teams
30 October 2026 · The Rosterly team · 4 min read
The best 7shifts alternatives depend on why it doesn't fit. 7shifts is built for restaurants and prices per location, so groups with several sites, and teams outside restaurants such as cafés, retail or cleaning, often look elsewhere. Rosterly charges one flat price per workspace however many locations you run; stay with 7shifts if you rely on POS-driven labour targets, tip management or its free plan.
7shifts is a strong restaurant scheduling platform. This post is for teams it wasn't designed around: multi-site groups paying per location, non-restaurant businesses, and teams in several countries.
What 7shifts offers
When we checked its pricing page on 17 October 2026, 7shifts listed:
•
Comp (free): one location, up to 15 employees, with basic scheduling, announcements, availability and time off.
•
Essentials: CA$39.99 per location per month billed annually (CA$44.99 monthly), up to 30 employees, adding advanced scheduling, team messaging and basic time clocking.
•
Pro: CA$79.99 per location per month billed annually, up to 60 employees, adding labour compliance and labour cost tools.
•
Premium: CA$134.99 per location per month billed annually, unlimited employees, with tip and task management, forecasting and training.
•
Add-ons: for example, Tip Management at CA$49.99 per location.
Prices were new-customer prices and may differ by country.
Reason 1: you pay again for every location
Per-location pricing is predictable for one restaurant. For a group, it multiplies. Three locations on Essentials is three times CA$39.99 a month, and moving to Pro for labour tools doubles each one.
With Rosterly, a workspace holds every location, each with its own time zone and currency, for one price by total team size: A$29, A$59 or A$119 a month for up to 10, 25 or 60 staff. Staff who work at two sites appear once. Our franchise scheduling page shows how that works across sites.
Reason 2: you're not a restaurant
7shifts' best features, such as POS sales integration, tip pooling and restaurant labour targets, matter less to a retail store, pharmacy or cleaning crew. Those teams tend to need different things:
•
Skills that block assignment: pharmacist on duty, keyholder, first aid.
If you run sites in more than one country, check how each tool handles time zones and currencies. Rosterly sets them per location, so a site in Auckland and one in Sydney each show local time and local currency.
When to stay on 7shifts
Be honest about what you'd give up. Stay on 7shifts if:
•
you run one small restaurant with up to 15 staff and the free plan covers you
•
you want labour targets set from POS sales data
•
you need tip management, hiring or training in the same tool
•
you rely on overtime alerts and state-based labour compliance tools
Rosterly doesn't integrate with POS systems, doesn't manage tips and doesn't calculate overtime. Our Rosterly vs 7shifts comparison lays out the full feature list.
Run your sites from one workspace
Add every location, rebuild one week and compare the cost. 14-day free trial, no card needed.
Rosterly Business: A$119 a month for up to 60 staff across all sites, including GST.
The currencies differ, so convert at today's rate before deciding, and only compare like with like: if you need Pro's labour tools, Rosterly doesn't offer them.
Moving from 7shifts: a short plan
1.
Pick your quietest month. Avoid switching before Christmas or a big season.
2.
Rebuild one week per site. Add locations, people and skills, rebuild a typical week for each site and copy it forward.
3.
Run side by side for one pay period. Compare worked hours from both tools before you trust the new export.
4.
Onboard by site. Start with the manager most comfortable with change, then the rest.
5.
Keep your 7shifts data. Export timesheets and keep them for your records; in Australia, time and wages records must be kept for seven years.
